This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the teaching skills of a mother on her child's acquisition of self care skills. Method: The study was conducted with an 18-year-old individual with intellectual disability (ID) and her 42-year old mother. The study employed multiple probe design, one of the single-subject research models. The independent variable of the study was the family education program entitled Self Care Instruction to Individuals with ID. These were the teaching activities carried out by the mother with her child with ID in line with this program. The dependent variable was the level of the individual with ID to fulfill the targeted self-care skills. Findings: The findings revealed that (a) the instruction given by the mother who completed the family education program on teaching self-care was effective in her child's acquisition of self-care skills, (b) the child was able to generalize the skills acquired to other environments, different individuals and different materials, and (c) the child was able to perform the skills well following the program. Discussion: Research findings demonstrate that using videos to model instruction on self-care skills is both effective and scientifically based. By the end of the program, the child's performance in all of the self-care skills showed improvement, which meant that the results supported those of previous studies.Yayın Effectiveness of pre-employment independent life education program designed for young adults with intellectual disability(International Journal of Developmental Disabilities, 2023) Yıldız, Gizem; Cavkaytar, AtillaIt is important to provide the independent life support individuals with intellectual disabilities need in preparing for employment. The primary purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of the PreEmployment Independent Life Education Program (PILEP) design based on the needs to inform and support young adults. The research model is a pre-test post-test control group design. Thirty young adults with intellectual disabilities participated in the study. Also, included within the scope of the social validity study were the opinions of the participants and stakeholders in the PILEP. The PILEP consists of three modules: (1) Personal Care and Hygiene, (2) Preparation to Community Life and (3) Health and Safety. A mixed ANOVA (2x3) with two factors was performed to investigate the effectiveness of the PILEP. The results showed that PILEP was effective regarding the knowledge and skills of young adults. A significant difference (p < .05; g2 ¼ 0.94) was found between the experimental group and control group with large effect size. In the social validity study, the opinions of the participants, their parents, employer, job teacher and lead waiter were interviewed. The opinions on the content, presentation, and implementation with multimedia design of the PILEP were positive.Yayın Effectiveness of the Online Inclusive Teachers' Professional Development Program on Problem Behavior(Council Exceptional Children, 2022) Gezer Demirdagli, S.; Cavkaytar, AtillaTo cope with students' problem behaviors, which is a frequently encountered problem within inclusive education implementations, classroom teachers often require some form of in-service training. In considering this issue, the current study aimed to determine the effectiveness of an online problem behavior professional development program (e-ITPDPB) that was explicitly designed for teachers of inclusive education. The study model was the experimental model employing a pretest-posttest control and experimental group design. The study's participants included 60 primary school teachers who were randomly assigned to the experimental (N = 30) and control (N = 30) groups. The obtained study data were analyzed using independent samples t-test and ANOVA. The e-ITPDPB was found to be effective in decreasing the number of problem behavior reports raised by teachers and the diversity of causes attributed to problem behavior and the increase in the employment of positive coping ways by the teachers. Furthermore, the teachers' perceptions of professional competence improved, as did their positive views regarding inclusive education.Yayın ZİHİNSEL YETERSİZLİĞİ OLAN ÇOCUK AİLELERİNİN AİLE YAŞAM KALİTESİNE İLİŞKİN SİSTEMATİK BİR DERLEME(2021) Gülsün, İpek; Cavkaytar, AtillaBu araştırmanın amacı, zihinsel yetersizliği olan çocuğa sahip ailelerin aile yaşam kalitesi algılarının ele alındığı araştırmaların sistematik derleme yapılarak incelenmesidir.
