Görme duyusu ile başlayan sinema tarihi, teknolojilerin gelişmesiyle, sesli sinema döneminde işitmeyi sinema deneyiminin önemli bir parçası haline getirmiştir. Zaman içinde sinemada koku, dokunma gibi diğer duyular da deneyimlenmiştir. Koku duyusu gerek görsel olarak duyunun uyarılması gerekse gerçek anlamda kokunun film gösterimine dahil edilmesiyle yer bulmuştur. Koku duyusu sinema anlatısına katkı sağlayabilmektedir. Kokunun hatırlama üzerinde önemli bir etkisi de bulunmaktadır. Tez çalışması, sinemada kokunun kullanılmasına bir örnek oluşturmayı amaçlamaktadır. Eser odaklı bu tez çalışması kapsamında “Lavantayı Ararken” film çalışması ile görme ve işitme duyularına ek olarak lavanta kokusunun gösterime dahil edilmesi gerçekleştirilmiştir. Filmde koku, görsel içerikler ve fiziksel olarak tasarlanarak zaman ve mekân geçişlerinde sinema anlatısına katkı sağlamak üzere kullanılmıştır. Şiirsel sinema unsurları içeren film çalışması kapsamında koku duyusunun tasarımının sinema anlatısına katkısı irdelenmiştir.In the art of cinema, the effect of the senses on the film narrative is important. Beginning with the sense of sight, the history of cinema made hearing an important part of the cinematic experience as technology developed during the sound era. Over time, other senses such as smell and touch have also become part of the cinematic experience. The sense of smell has found a place both through the visual stimulation of the sense of smell and through the actual inclusion of the smell in the screening of the film. The sense of smell can contribute to the cinematic narrative. Smell also has an important effect on memory. This thesis aims to provide an example of the use of smell in cinema. In this work-focused thesis study, the film 'Searching for Lavender' was planned with the scent of lavender in addition to the senses of sight and hearing. In the film, the scent is used to contribute to the cinematic narrative in transitions of time and location through the olfactory design of visual content and real odourants.
