Yayın Jan Van Toorn's "design and retlexivity" and panel presentation(Maltepe Üniversitesi, 2014) Araujo, Laura; Dominguez, Maria Manuel Viana Ferreira; Bowman, JackThis panel on Design Activism Lakes a starting point in Jan Van Toorn's l994 seminal essay Design And Retlexivity. ln this text, van Toorn makes a statement about the designer's stance against the commercial dogma of our age and how we can find new ways oI working outside and against a cultural system that doesn't create room tor alternative and critical interpretations ot reality. Reality is a keyword, as the designer must always align its work and thinking with the context of its time. This is a particularly important idea to understand the post-modern phenomena in graphic design. but also to understand how post-modernism gave way to a new dogma, which some designers started to refuse, just like the post-modernists refused the modernist dogma before.
