    Evidence-based practices in intramuscular injection
(Maltepe Üniversitesi, 2019) Erdoğan, Damla; Çokluk, Kader; Asi, Ercan
INTRODUCTION: We are in the fourth class. In our internship, according to the statement of some nurse, especially Family Health Center, give an injection can be done while the patient is standing. We were surprised because we knew it was very dangerous for both the patient and us. Intramuscular injections are a common nursing function. Although considered a simple technique if intramuscular injections are not done in some way, very serious complications can occur. METHOD: Dorsogluteal site an application of intramuscular injection is often a site. It is suggested that ventrogluteal the site using an alternative to the site because dorsogluteal site caused injection sciatic nerve. Ventrogluteal region is an injection site containing the gluteus medius and gluteus minimus muscles. This region can be used in adults and children. Causes of the Ventrogluteal region to be the most reliable site for injection; the absence of nerves and blood vessels in this region, to be away from the bone prominences and the possibility of administration of the drug to subcutaneous tissue is low. According to the results of the research conducted by, for example, in 2014; As the result of the study, 85.9% of the nurses were detected to use dorsogluteal site mostly and 63.3% were detected to never use ventrogluteal site. Examining the reasons why nurses do not use this area, believe that the ventrogluteal region is not as safe as the dorsogluteal region and difficulties in identifying this region are shown. In addition, when injected into this region, the majority of nurses think that they can harm the patient. Intramuscular administration to the Ventrogluteal region I. Find the big thoracanter of the femur. ii. Find the anterior iliac spine. iii. Put your prey on the thoracanter. Head anteior iliak ‘V ma with your middle finger. iv. Injection zone sign and middle finger remaining space. vi. Stretch the skin. vi. Injector with pen 90 degrees Get in the vault. vii. Give the area up to 3 ml of fluid. CONCLUSION: In nursing education, it should be emphasized that in the selection of injection site, the ventrogluteal region should be considered as the first choice rather than as an alternative to the dorsogluteal region. In this review, we want to draw attention to the importance of education in evidence-based practices and we want to prefer modern methods rather than traditional methods of people.
