Yayın Causes of violence towards health workers from the perspective of nursing students(Maltepe Üniversitesi, 2020) Bedir, Güldali; Değirmenci, KaderAim: The aim of the study is to determine the causes of violence against health workers from the perspective of nursing students. Methods: The study included 295 nursing students of Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Bucak School of Health, who agreed to participate in the study. The data collection form was used to collect personal information and opinions about violence. Data were evaluated using numberpercentage distribution, Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis test analysis. Results: The average age of the participants was 20.40±1.52, 63.1% were women, 38% were second class, and 85.4% did not receive training on violence against health workers. When questioning who is responsible for the violence against the health worker, 49.5% of the participants stated that they were both health workers and patient/patient relatives and 45.4% stated that they were patient/patient relatives. According to the results obtained in the study, the reason of violence to the health worker from the point of view of the nursing students is that the patient/patient relatives are impatient with 62.7%, the crowding of hospitals with 38.6% and the inadequacy of the number of health workers with 38%. It was found that only 18.3% of the individuals concerned with the punishments had information about the criminal procedures related to the violence against the health worker and 77.8% of them thought that these punishments were not deterrent. 52.5% of the participants think that the news and series in the media increase the tendency of violence against healthcare workers. Conclusion: Violence against health workers is increasing day by day. Therefore, we hereby wanted to emphasize that lessons concerning establishing effective communication with patients and recognizing the legal rights should be included in the nursing faculty curriculum.
