Yayın Multi disciplinary approach to hospitalized patient with preeclampsia(Maltepe Üniversitesi, 2018) Blazheva, TeodoraPreeclampsia is a serious complication of pregnancy that is manifested by hypertension and proteinuria. Women diagnosed with preeclampsia may experience blurred vision, headaches, swelling due to the fluid retention. About 7% of pregnant women develop preeclampsia. It occurs more often in pregnant women older than 35 years of age, twin pregnancies, diabetic patients, pre-hypertension and kidney disease. Moderate preeclampsia is characterized by a moderate increase in blood pressure without signs of organ damage and minimal proteinuria. Severe preeclampsia is characterized by significant hypertension, significant proteinuria, and signs of organ damage due to systemic vasoconstriction. Signs of severe preeclampsia are: headache, visual disturbances, confusion, nausea and vomiting, proteinuria, oliguria. Patients with severe preeclampsia should be hospitalized, where a multidisciplinary approach is applied in order to protect the mother and the baby from unwanted outcome. In the city of Ohrid, in 2017, 556 babies were born. From the diary of hospitalized patients in the gynecological unit, it was determined that 3 of the 556 expectant mothers were hospitalized before the term for delivery due to preeclampsia. Gynecologist-obstetrician follows the condition of the pregnant woman. If hypertension is not reduced by non-pharmacological interventions, such as reducing salt intake and rest, the doctor may prescribe antihypertensive drugs that are safe to use during pregnancy. If hypertension does not recede in more than 48 hours, liver or kidney dysfunction occurs, the gynecologist may induce delivery.
