Yayın Anal spinchter reconstructtion with bilateral gracilis muscle flap(American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 1998) Aköz, Tayfun; Civelek, Birol; Görgü, Metin; Aslan, GürcanI read the artşcle by Guelinckx et al, on anal sphicter reconstruction using the gluteus maximus muscle with great interest. When the morbidity of using the gluteus maximus muscle is taken into consideration, it is evident that the use of gracilis muscle for the same purpose is better in this sense. The authors seem to resolve problem arising from the loss of thigh extension and lessened pelvis stability by using only the lower one-third of the muscle. However, they kept their patients immobilized for 3 weeks.Yayın Congenital anonychia(1998) Aköz, Tayfun; Erdoğan, Bülent; Görgü, Metin; Civelek, BirolDespite a high frequency of acquired nail diseases, congenital absence of the nails, also described as anonychia, is a rare anomaly. It may be seen as an isolated anomaly or associated with the absence of phalangeal bones(ectrodactyly), nail patella syndrome, trauma, impaired peripheral circulation, alopecia areata, pemphigus, idiopathic attrophy of the nails, bullous drug eruptions and periodic shedding, lichen planus, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa. In this communication, we present a patient with the absence of all fingernails and most of the toernails in conjunction with a literature review in the relevant subject.Yayın Modified tendon stripper for obtaining palmaris longus tendon graft(American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 1999) Aköz, Tayfun; Altuntaş, Hilal; Civelek, BirolTendon graft harvesting is a tedious procedure and has a cosmetically unsatisfactory result for the patient. Conventional methods are performed with a tendon stripper, multiple incisions, or both, made along the course of a previously identified tendon. Endoscopically assisted tendon-graft harvesting has also been report, we are presting a series of cases that needed tendon grafts for which a newly modified tendon stripper was used.Yayın Rhinocerebral mucormycosis: report of two cases(Wolters Kluwer Health, 1999) Aköz, Tayfun; Civelek, Birol; Akan, MithatRhinocerebral mucrmycosis is a rare opportunistic infection caused by fungi. It is commonly fatal and aggresive infection locised paranasal sinuses and orbit. We report two cases had necrotising infection on the left nasolabial region. Despite aggressive surgical debridement and medical treatment, the patients died 6 and 7 days after admission. Plastic Surgeons should be aware when they have a patient with rapidly developing soft tissue infection over the parasal sinuses and periorbital region. Combined treatment is mandatory for these patients. It usually results in death, but powerful efforts may save the patient.Yayın Turbocharge or supercharge?(American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 1998) Civelek, Birol; Kargı, Eksal; Aköz, Tayfun; Şensöz, ÖmerWe read with enthusiasm the article by John L. Semple on microvascular augmentation of single pedicle TRAM flap. As one reads the previously published articles on the microvascular augmentation of TRAM flaps, it is easily noticed that there is no clear concensus on the nomenclature of the method of vascular augmentation. The are two major classifications; the first is ''supercharging,'' and the other ''turbocharging''. Naming a surgical method is definitely a must; however, when these definitions and terms are used for exactly the same purposes, one cannot avoid getting confused.
