Percetion and use of social media chats as a source of health information among working class youths in Anambra state, Nigeria

The social media are designed to provide interactive platforms for the connection of people around the globe. This connection has broken the barriers of distance, time and space, making conversation likened to a chit-chat with a next-door neighbour. The advent of the social media has also made for affordable and even more interesting communication. Through the social media, individuals share videos, pictures, thoughts and ideas. However, Iiterature has shown that socia| media chats have not only been used for casual conversations, but also for issues as crucial as health, social media chats have been shown as ways of obtaining health information for hea|th behaviour change. Based on this, the researcher will employ the survey research methodology to ascertain the use of social media chats for obtaining health information among working class youths in Anambra state, Nigeria. The focus group research methodology will be further used to determine why these working class youths use the social media to gather health information and the usefulness of the health inlormation so gathered. Results derived would be used to recommend or not, the use of social media chats as a medium of health communication.
