Education is one of the basic human right and the best investment that we can make to ensure a sustainable future and leave no one behind. Everyone, regardless of gender, religion, ethnicity or economic statue, is entitled to it. Using systematic literature review, the paper is based on qualitative research. According to the findings of the study, four decades of war and rule by governments guided by ideology (communism and socialism) or religion (radical Islam) seriously affected the education system in Afghanistan. Despite the achievement in education made by Afghanistan over the past 20 years and of the remaining challenges and gaps that need urgently against the backdrop of deep political change in the country. However, poverty, the quality of education, distance from schools and educational institutes, tradition and culture, insecurity, child marriage and movement are the main factor of lack of access to education especially for girls and women. Despite of these problems, Taliban restricted 6-12th grade girls to not go to school all over the Afghanistan. The paper proposes certain policy changes and strategies required to solve the educational problems in Afghanistan.
