Yayın Prescription analysis and factors affecting prescribing for most common elective surgeries in Islamabad, Pakistan(Maltepe Üniversitesi, 2019) Khan, Z.; Ahmed, N.; Rehman, A.Introduction: Appropriate prescribing has one of the major roles in rational use of therapy and decrease morbidity of disease. Current research investigated appropriate prescribing practices and factors affecting prescribing. Materials and Methods: It was a cross-sectional observational study in capital city of Pakistan. Standard treatment guidelines and validated questionnaire was used to fulfilled study objectives. Descriptive and inferential statistical tests were used for representation of data in SPSS 22.0. Results: A total of 660 procedures were observed, most common elective surgical procedure was laparoscopic cholecystectomy (46.5%). Choice of Surgical antibiotic Prophylaxis (SAP) was appropriate in minimal cases of patients. Compliance with respect to appropriate timing was significantly lower; P = 0.001. All the prescribing care indicators were not according to standard recommendation of WHO/INRUD. With respect to questionnaire, the internal consistency for the questionnaire was good (? ? 0.7). Questionnaire was completed by 225 prescribers with a response rate of 75%. Prescribers having the age group less than 30 years constituted the highest proportion (n=179, 79.6%), 72% had experience of <10 year (n=162). Participants demonstrated strongly positive perceptions regarding many factors. All participants strongly agreed/agreed with many determinants described in questionnaire. Discussion: Present study shows poor adherence rate with standard treatment guidelines. Improvement in perceptions and practices of prescribers are crucial for betterment of health system and patient wellbeing.
