Evidence-based practices in nursing, nursing care in patients with cns tumors
(Maltepe Üniversitesi, 2019) Talimdjioski, Mario; Kolevska, Daniela
INTRODUCTION: Practice-based on evidence in medicine means conducting clinical research in order to enable proper treatment and care of patients, to determine the safety and efficacy of drugs, then to apply the appropriate preventive measures, to determine the choice of a proper diagnostic procedure, and one of the most important goals of this research is to achieve the best outcome of the patient. METHODOLOGY: The purpose of this research is to confirm the importance of how the care is done in these patients and how much it is necessary, how important is its role in providing meaningful information to the patient and his family, their communication with them and cooperation with colleagues. How important is her recognition of the early signs of increased intracranial pressure and what is the purpose of recognizing them? Also, how important is the observation of vital functions, the implementation of therapy and timely informing the physician about the health condition of the patient. RESULTS: The results of the study showed that proper nursing care and recognizing early signs might prevent further complications. The results also showed that health care in these patients should be performed in the bed according to the rules for care of a passive patient. Communication will be most effective if a nurse demonstrates warmth, empathy, sincere care for the patient, and has no relation to judgment. There is a series of recommendations for giving meaningful information or bad news that the nurse should practice. It is very important for the nurse to recognize the early signs of increased intracranial pressure such as confusion, changes in consciousness, ptosis, “lazy” reactions of pupils, reduced vision, diplopia, etc. in order to prevent or mitigate the late signs of increased intracranial pressure. In this category of patients, it is also important to observe vital functions intensively (pulse, breathing, temperature, blood pressure, electrocardiogram). It is necessary to carry out the therapy properly and to inform the doctor about the changes in the health condition of the patient in a timely manner. CONCLUSION: Medical staff should be constantly improving their knowledge in a practical and theoretical sense in accordance with the latest world criteria and standards in order to successful treatments and better patient outcomes. Longterm goals are not only to reduce morbidity and mortality, but also to improve quality of life and reduce costs and burden on health systems.
