Yayın Don’t worry, be happy: the role of rejection sensitivity in psychological well-being(Maltepe Üniversitesi, 2019) Sordia, NatiaRejection sensitivity (RS) is the disposition to anxiously expect, readily perceive, and intensely react to rejection. In contrast to people who worry, happy people are those who experience greater positive and less negative affect, and satisfaction with life. The purpose of the presented study is to examine the relationship between rejection sensitivity and subjective well-being. 230 volunteers (171 female) participated in the study, aged from 17 to 48 (M =19.5, SD=3.98). Modified version of the Rejection Sensitivity Questionnaire (Downey & Feldman.1996) and psychological well-being Scale (Diener, Wirtz, Biaswas-Diner, Tov, Kim-Prieto, Choi, & Oishi, 2009) were used in the study. The results show that the expectation of rejection is negatively related to well-being (r = -.423 p <.01). The relationship between rejection sensitivity and psychological well-being was significant and negative (r= -.299 p <. 01) as well. The total variance of psychological well-being scores explained by rejection sensitivity and its components is 19 %, F (4.225) = 12.83, p < .000. Among rejection expectancy, rejection sensitivity, angry RS, and anxious RS, only rejection expectancy remained statistically significant (b = -.594, p <.01). According to the results, if you don’t worry the chance of being happy is statistically significant.
