Yayın Clinical features of comorbidity of varicose veins of lower extremities and knee osteoarthritis(Maltepe Üniversitesi, 2018) Syniachenko, Yu. O.; Zazdravnov, A. A.Introduction: Pathogenetic relationships between varicose veins of lower extremities (VVLE) and knee osteoarthritis (KO) exist. VVLE is a negative prognostic criterion for the intensity of arthralgia, functional insufficiency of the knee joints and the severity of the reactive synovitis. The lack of mobility of patients with KO and VVLE contributes to the development and progression of trophic ulcers of the skin of the legs. Objective: To study the frequency of specific clinical features in patients with comorbidity of VVLE and KO. Methodology: 302 patients with VVLE were examined by clinical methods. Also, ultrasound examination of lower extremities vessels was performed in all patients. Result: KO was diagnosed in 54 (17.9%) patients with VVLE (group 1). 248 patients with isolated VVLE formed group 2. The ratio of men and women in group 1 was 1: 2, in group 2 was 1:4. Analysis of the patients investigation found that the presence of KO affects the clinical signs of the VVLE. In group 1, the pathology of the vessels of the legs was more frequent than in group 2: the widening of the mouth of vein was 2.1 times, the arteriosclerosis of the vessels of the legs was 4,2 times, the involvement of the large saphenous vein was 1.3 times. The manifest synovitis occurred in 79.6% of patients with KO. Osteophytosis was detected in 85.2% of observations, subchondral sclerosis was detected in 83.3% of cases, osteochystosis - in 38.9%, epiphyseal osteoporosis - in 31.5%, ligamentosis - in 35.2%, erosion of bone - in 37.0%, meniscus horn changes - in 87.0%, Baker cysts - in 33.3% respectively. It should be noted a very high frequency of detection of Baker’s cysts in patients with comorbidity of VVLE and KO (1.5-2 times higher than the average for patients with isolated KO). Conclusions: Therefore, KO is diagnosed in 18% of patients with VVLE, more often in men. The involvement of the large saphenous vein in the pathological process, with its mouth extension and arteriosclerosis of the vessels of the lower extremities, is inherent for this comorbidity. KO in these patients manifested by synovitis, osteophytosis, subchondral sclerosis, and especially often by Baker’s cysts.Yayın Clinical features of comorbidity of varicose veins of lower extremities and knee osteoarthritis(Maltepe Üniversitesi, 2018) Syniachenko, Yu.
