Yayın Gender equality and well-being(Maltepe Üniversitesi, 2019) Yakupova, Gülzade; Useinova, CeylanWell-being is the experience of health, happiness and prosperity. It includes having good mental health, high life satisfaction, and a sense of meaning or purpose. Our paper aims to investigate the connection between gender equality and well-being. It also focuses on how this relates to happiness and life satisfaction of both genders. Gender inequality has been one of the major problems which have been prevalent in the world and subject to many studies and discussions. In order to overcome this issue most of the states have taken different measures to prevent the negative consequences of it. Substantial progress has been made toward gender equality over the past years across a number of dimensions. According to Blau (1998) “Gender differences in labor force participation have narrowed sharply, differences between men and women in occupations, types of education, and rates of self-employment have been greatly diminished; and women have narrowed the gender wage gap substantially”. Researchers state that women are now better off than before as a result of greater gender equality and that women’s subjective well-being has improved greatly. However, there is no empirical support for this prediction. The issue is controversial because in some states women have reported lower life satisfaction and happiness despite the efforts for diminishing gender inequality. We will try to cover all the impacts and effects of gender equality on an individual’s well-being.
