| dc.description.abstract | ABD ve “müttefikleri”, 2011’in ilkbaharında “despot” olarak nitelendirdikleri rejimin yerine tam anlamıyla demokratik bir rejim getirmek için Suriye’nin üzerine çullandılar, zaten Suriye’de rejimin en fazla birkaç ay dayanacağını varsayıyorlardı. Gerçekten, Türk hükümeti de Esat’ın, kendisine karşı harekete geçen bütün bu güçlere karşı birkaç aydan daha fazla dayanamayacağı ümidini besliyordu. Sonrasında Esat ya ülkeden kaçacak ya da ailesi ve yakınındakilerle birlikte sokaklarda linç edilecekti. | dc.description.abstract | When the US and its ‘allies’ swooped upon Syria in the spring of 2011 outwardly to replace what they called the ‘tyrannical regime’ led by Bashar al-Assad with a proper democratic government, their assumption was that the Syrian government would be out in a few months. Indeed, the Turkish leadership apparently cherished the hope that he would not stand against all the odds for more than some three months: he would either escape the country or he and his family members together with his close associates would be lynched in the streets. Indeed, the ease and the speed with which Gaddafy of Libya were removed from power may have misled Ankara to the belief that the days of those regimes were numbered. | en_US |
