Yayın Enduring endless crises: life of a woman refugee(Maltepe Üniversitesi, 2016) Basheer, Aamir Sohrab M. M.; Kanatt, CharlsRefugees as we all know are a displaced, deprived and disadvantaged group, subsisting only on the half-hearted hospitality meted out hesitantly by secure and self-sufficient nations. They are much shaken, confused and therefore vulnerable lot who is spurred on by the fear of being persecuted on one's own soil. The principle of 'non-refoulement' is probably the only guarantee to their security of life and lets them dare dream of a reunion with home, however long that may take. They are in most cases an ethnically or racially homogeneous group comprising evenly of men, women and children of all ages and kinds. Every refugee during his/her term of refuge is subject to exploitation. violence, disregard and isolation. Women refugees, due to courtesy of their 'weaker sex" connotation and the gender inequalities ever existent in the society are naturally at the receiving end of even more wrath. The rights awarded to refugees in general often prove to be ineffective, insufficient and futile in the case of women. The fact that women refugees are insecure and unsafe within the precincts of their own camps is proven by various media reports and other inputs that suggest that they face a risk of being sexually exploited by men belonging to the same camp. ln addition to this, other impending risks of human trafficking and physical abuse from external elements such as humanitarian aid agency staff and security forces continue to plague their well-being.
