Yayın Are mothers and fathers satisfied with their parenting and life? A preliminary study in a polish sample of parents(Maltepe Üniversitesi, 2019) Mandecka, Natalia; Bernat, Kamila Czepczor; Szczygiel, Dorota; Matera, Anna BrytekNew well -being researches focus on the parental burnout syndrome (Roskam et al., 2018), related to parenthood and characterized by emotional and physical exhaustion, the emotional distancing of parents from their children and loss of parental accomplishment (Le Vigouroux and Scola, 2018). The objective of this study was to compare the Polish mothers’ and fathers’ level of parental burnout and life satisfaction with the previous results (Le Vigouroux and Scola, 2018). The sample composed of 116 mothers and 116 fathers. All participants completed two questionnaires: the Parental Burnout Assessment (Roskam et al., 2018) and the Satisfaction with Life Scale (Pavot and Diener, 2008). The results indicate that the level of parental burnout is higher among mothers in comparison to fathers (Mmothers = 43,99, SD = 34,16; Mfathers = 33,11, SD = 27,66; t(228) = 2,65; p < 0,01). However, there were no indicators that show difference in their life satisfaction. In both groups, parental burnout was negatively associated with life satisfaction - however, this relationship was stronger among fathers (r = -0,522, p < 0,001) than mothers (r = -0,471, p < 0,001). The findings of this research are consistent with previous studies. Moreover, the results demonstrate that parental burnout is significantly associated with lower life satisfaction among both fathers and mothers. Therefore, future studies should consider the life satisfaction component of subjective well-being of both parents in the study of being physically and emotionally overwhelmed by one’s parental role (Hubert and Aujoulat, 2018).Yayın Is quality of life associated with negative emotions, body satisfaction and depression symptoms in sample of obesit?(Maltepe Üniversitesi, 2019) Modrzejewska, Adriana; Musial, Paulina; Baron, Natalia; Bernat, Kamila CzepczorThe theoretical models of obesity have shown that quality of life is associated with negative emotions, body dissatisfaction and depression symptoms (Hemmingson, 2015; Marks, 2015; Raman et al., 2013). The objective of the study was to assess whether negative emotions, body satisfaction and depression symptoms predict quality of life in patients with obesity. The study included 60 obese participants (BMI ? 30 kg/m2 ). The mean age was 40,97 years (SD = 10,80) and the mean BMI was 33,76 kg/m2 (SD = 3,56). All participants completed the Situational Inventory of Body Image Dysphoria (Cash, 2002), the Contour Drawing Rating Scale (Thompson and Gray, 1995), the Beck Depression Inventory (Beck and Steer, 1993) and the Body Image Quality of Life Inventory (Cash and Fleming, 2002). We found that higher levels of negative emotions (ß = -0,515; p < 0,001) predicted quality of life in patients with obesity. Whereas, body satisfaction (ß = 0.137; p > 0,05) and depression symptoms (ß = -0,262; p > 0,05) were not significant predictors of quality of life. In patients with obesity, negative emotions were the strongest negative determinant of quality of life. Therefore, psychological interventions for patients with obesity should focus on reduction negative emotions to increase their quality of life.
