    Relationship between youth migration and demand for higher education (Study case: Indonesia)

    Entering the 21st century, migration had been one of the most important issues on global world and each states. Not only focus on international migration, but also on internal migration. In Indonesia, phenomenon of internal migration, especially in youth migration from rural to urban is still on going since long ago. The statistic for youth migration is increasing for year to year. There are many underlying factors in Indonesia’s youth migration and could be challenge for its state. Using young migrant aged 18-24 years old as respondent, shown that education plays an important role in youth migration. Rural areas in Indonesia still lack in providing educational facilities, while the population have demand for higher education. Therefore the individual who want to have higher education should do migration. Perhaps can gain more work experiences after had higher education and earn higher wages in the future. However, this phenomenon has the challenges too, like population distribution is not evenly distributed, population explosion only in one city, and inequality caused by they did not want to return migration after had higher education. This research used qualitative method to collect data from journals, articles, internet and random questionnaries from social media. It is also theoritically based on theory of migration. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the relationship between youth migration and demand for higher education, also in its challenge and opportunity for deep.
