Yayın Violence in healthcare; its causes, prevention and solutions suggestions(Maltepe Üniversitesi, 2020) Uwitonze, Denyse; Duran, Şerife Bilge; Keser, İlkayIntroduction and Aim: Violence is physical, verbal or sexual behaviour intended to harm someone or something. Violence against healthcare providers increases daily due to the increase of violence in our society.The aim of this study is to address the causes of violence which occurs against those who work in the healthcare workplace, how this violence can be prevented, and to suggest some solutions to this problem. Method: This study is a collected work. In public database “health”, “violence”, “violence in health”, words have been used as a keyword as we are doing on this study. Results: According to many research, the result shows that: healthcare providers have experienced verbal abuse at least once in their life, most of the people who show verbal and aggressive behaviour are males, according to the public opinion most violence occurs at the public hospital in emergency services and treatment rooms. This study also shows that male patients and those who don’t use their drugs as they should have a high rate of causing this type of violence. The causes of this violence, the dissatisfaction of patients about service and communication are the main reasons. In my studies, they suggest many solutions to prevent violence healthcare, such as; to inform healthcare provider about violence, to make institute regulations and to inform healthcare providers about violence legal regulations. Conclusion and Suggestions: It is so important to do research on violence in healthcare and their causes. Violence in healthcare affect healthcare providers, patients and their relatives as this study show: increasing of communication skills of healthcare providers, teaching or informing them about how to prevent violence in their workplaces will decrease violence events in the workplace. This study also suggests that raising awareness about violence in the community and making some legal regulations about violence will also contribute to the prevention of violence.
