Abstract
The issue of opening the Heybeliada Clergy School (subsequently referred to as “HCS”) for education came at the same time as the Fener Greek Patriarchate’s (subsequently referred to as “patriarchate”) claim of being “ecumenic” recently has turned into an intensive political pressure in Turkey. According to these claims; “…some rights given to minority schools by the Lozan Treaty have been taken back by Turkish Governments in the course of time; the closure of the HCS has impaired the ‘religious’ freedom of the Greek-Christian minorities who live in the country and whose number has decreased… This situation violates human rights and the norms of universal law…the HCS should immediately be opened… Besides, The Fener Greek Patriarchate is historically ‘ecumenical.’ This characteristic should also be recognized by Turkish Republic…
