dc.description.abstractİkinci Dünya Savaşı süresince yaşanan Holokost nedeniyle milyonlarca insan zulüm görmüş ve ölmüştür. Özellikle Doğu Avrupa'da bir Yahudi kolu olan Aşkenazlar, Holokost'ta pek çok kurban vermiştir. Genel itibarıyla, Holokost dönemi filmlerinin konuları, Avrupa ülkelerinde İkinci Dünya Savaşı’nın yaşandığı yerlerde geçmektedir. Eser odaklı bu tez çalışmasının çıktısı olan "Umut Işığı" filmi ise savaşın dışında kalma mücadelesi vermiş olan Türkiye'de yer almaktadır. Film, savaşın atmosferini, İkinci Dünya Savaşı’nın yaşanmış olduğu Avrupa şehirlerinden birinde olmasa da Avrupa’nın güneydoğusunda yer alan İstanbul'da geçen bir hikâye temelinde göstermektedir. "Umut Işığı" filmi, neredeyse yüzyıldan bu yana kullanılmakta olan rotoskop (rotoscope) tekniği seçilerek oluşturulmuştur. Rotoskop tekniği, canlı görüntülerden referans alınarak yapılan çizim ve boyama işlemlerine dayalı bir animasyon yöntemidir. Bu sayede, resim, grafik tasarım ve sinema tekniklerinin bir araya getirilmesiyle insan hakları temasına dayalı kısa metrajlı bir dönem filmi oluşturulması hedeflenmiştir.
dc.description.abstractMillions of people were persecuted, maimed or killed as a result of the Holocaust during the Second World War. The Ashkenazic Jewish community suffered many victims during the Holocaust, especially in Eastern Europe. In general, Holocaust-era films are set in European countries in locations where the Second World War directly took place. The main location of the film ‘The Light of Hope’, which is the output of this thesis study, is Turkey, a country which at the period was making great efforts to stay out of the war. The film shows the atmosphere of war through a story set in Istanbul, a city in the southeast of Europe, rather than in one of the European cities where the Second World War took place. The film ‘Light of Hope ’was created using the rotoscope technique that has been used for almost a hundred years. The rotoscope technique is an animation method based on drawing and painting processes taking reference from live images. The aim of this study was to make a short-length period film based on the theme of human rights by combining rotoscoping, painting, graphic design and various cinema techniques.
