dc.description.abstractThis paper presents a tabu search metaheuristic algorithm for finding the Pareto optimal solutions of the dual response system problems in industrial applications. First we convert the problem into a scalar one by using a weighted linear sum of objectives and then optimize the combined objective function of the mean and the standard deviation of a given quality characteristic. The proposed formulation does not require any constraints on the secondary response (i.e., the process standard deviation). Unlike the other multi-objective alternatives, tabu approach does not set any specific assumptions on the behavior or the preference structure of the decision maker. A further advantage of tabu search is its simplicity and we show that the entire process only occupies a few lines of codes and generates string of solutions in speedy manner. This makes the search simpler and also computationally attractive than the other heuristic algorithms. The procedure is illustrated with an example.en_US
