dc.description.abstractAn extended version of the compound Poisson distribution is obtained by compounding the Poisson distribution with the generalized two-parameter Lindley distribution. This paper offers a three-parameter generalized Poisson-Lindley distribution, which generalizes Poisson-Lindley distribution, as a model for count data. This distribution provides enough flexibility for analyzing different types of count data. The study examines various properties of this model. The behavior of the density function, the expressions for the moments, the distribution of the sums of random variables and truncated and weighted versions of this distribution is obtained. Estimation of the parameters is discussed using the method of moments and maximum likelihood estimators. A simulation study is carried out to investigate the average bias and average mean square error (MSE) of the simulated estimates. An application of this distribution, including several examples of the fitting of this distribution to data, and comparing with other discrete distributions, are given.en_US
