Abstract
There is perhaps no other activity in human history as old as education, which has survived until today. The need for education necessitates the existence of an educator, and the interaction between the learner, the learner's family, and this trio's interaction within society contains many topics of interest to sociology. The main focus of this study is the "perspectives" of primary school teachers in Turkey regarding themselves, their professional roles, and the professional roles of their colleagues. Ways of exploring and understanding the main focus have been sought in this study. The aim of the study is to determine the "perspectives" of primary school teachers in Turkey regarding themselves, their professional roles, and the professional roles of their colleagues. The field data for this study, which was prepared according to the qualitative research method, was obtained from primary school teachers working in different public institutions, as well as retired teachers, in both private and public primary schools in the center of Bingöl. According to the findings obtained within the scope of the research, significant roles have been attributed to teachers in the social environment in which primary school teachers were born and raised, and it has been observed that primary school teachers who are currently teaching continue to perform these roles. All participants have concluded that the prestige of teaching has ended, attributing this to low salaries and incorrect practices by the government regarding teachers. Within the scope of the research, it was determined that the reason for the end of the teacher's prestige was related to the historical process and the fact that the task of creating citizens given to teachers in the early years of the Republic was taken away from them.
