Ranging from Joseph Kosuth's "One and three chairs,' Artur Zmijewski's "Singing Lesson"' Thamsanqa Jantie's 'fake' sign language interpretation at Madela's memorial, a woman called Fatima singing Janis Joplin on a hilltop, to a mistranslated bathroom sign, this paper sets out to connect these (at first glance) disparate events in order to understand how contemporary artists perceive artistic qualities in 'non-artistic' situations. This subsequently begs the questions: What is an artistic perspective? What are non artistic perspectives? ls there really a difference between the two?...en_US
