dc.description.abstractMulticulturalism is a timeless concept and not an innovation of the 21st century. Educational systems are asked to adjust to the new educational needs of the global community. The teacher, as a vehicle of the education needs to take on a new role as a mediator to serve the needs of a student popuIation with different linguistic or cultural backgrounds. ls it ready to accept the new challenges? ln recent decades teacher education and specifically, the Curriculum of the Primary School Education Departmenls have included cognitive subiects in intercultural education aiming to equip future teachers with theoretical knowledge, skills and teaching practices to manage effectively a heterogeneous classroom. This study examines the intercultural competence and readiness of future teachers and at the same time. evaluates indirectly the Curriculum of the Primary School Education Department of the University Patra, The data collection was completed by using questionnaires, which were djstributed to 4th year teacher education students during their internships. Analysis of the results showed that the enrichment of the curriculum in teacher's intercultural education is necessary in order to expand their knowledge and to acquire teaching skills in the multicultural educational environment.en_US
