This paper aims at understanding the role of crowdfunding is reshaping the media industry. Using the communication model, this paper argues that the traditional role of "receiver" is enhanced and therefore the input of the audience is no longer limited to feedback. However, this new role remains very limited as members of the audience do not (yet) have a say on the content of the "message" they contribute to.
