This study investigated intergenerational continuity of maternal acceptance-rejection, family functioning and parenting styles in 65 mostly rural-origin, traditional Turkish families and examined the mediator role of perceived maternal acceptance between family funtioning and parenting styles relationship across three generations of Turkish father-son dyads. Sixty-five male Turkish men with small children (aged 18 to 45), their fathers (aged 36 to 66) and grandfathers (aged 56 to 95) took part in the study. Participants completed Adult Parental Acceptance-Rejection Questionnaire, Parenting Styles Scale and Mc Master Family Assessment Device. Results found significant differences only in grandsons' and grandfathers' parenting styles. Grandsons perceived their fathers as less controling compared to their grandfathers. Hierarchical regression analysis showed that the interaction of paternal parenting style (acceptance and care) and maternal acceptance significantly predicted problem solving and communication subtests of family functioning. Results of sobel analysis reveals that the relationship between paternal parenting style (acceptance and care) and fathers' family functioning was mediated by maternal acceptance.en_US
