The main purpose of this study is to examine some variables related to dating violence and cognitive emotion regulation in university students. The research was conducted in a relational screening model. The research group consisted of 424 university students (266 female, 158 male) who were studying at undergraduate level at Maltepe University. In data collection; Dating Violence Scale, Cognitive Emotion Regulation Scale and Personal Information Form were used. The age of the students in this study is between 18-25 (Ort.=21.5, SD=2.29). The data of the study were analyzed using Mann-Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis, Independent Groups T-Test and One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). In the analysis of dating violence according to demographic characteristics, it was found that women had significantly higher scores of physical violence and emotional violence, while men had significantly higher scores of sexual violence and control behavior. In addition, students with a romantic relationship duration of 6 years or more had significantly higher levels of dating violence and control behavior than students with a romantic relationship duration of 1-3 years. On the other hand, in the analysis of cognitive emotion regulation according to demographic characteristics, it was observed that female students had significantly higher levels of rumination than male students. In addition, it was found that the acceptance, catastrophizing and blaming others scores of students who were not in a current romantic relationship were significantly higher than those of students who were in a current romantic relationship. Moreover, it was determined that the self-blame levels of students with a romantic relationship duration of 6 years or more were significantly higher than those of students with a romantic relationship duration of 3-5 years. Finally, the relationship between dating violence and cognitive emotion regulation was examined. In the analysis conducted in this context, it was determined that there were positive and significant relationships between the catastrophizing and blaming others dimensions of cognitive emotion regulation and all dimensions of dating violence. In addition, there were positive relationships between acceptance and rumination and emotional violence; negative relationships between positive reappraisal and sexual violence; and positive relationships between putting into perspective and control behavior.
