Beauty like supreme dominion ls but supported by opinion (Franklin in Poor Richard s Almanack 1741) Regarding Benjamin Franklin's quote. beauty depends on individual slant. The underlying statement, however. implies that since prettiness is shaped by opinion it is also changeable, ln other words, the perception of beauty appears to be alterable and suggestible. Long since, the media is fully aware of that specific characteristic. During the last decades, American Film and Television has started to play an increasingly role in shaping the masses' perception of beauty. This paper presents a very critical stance towards American cuIture's obsession with beauty - which often means not much more that the subjugation of women...
