Özet
Bu araştırmanın genel amacı İstanbul ilindeki devlet ve vakıf üniversitelerindeki İngilizce okutmanların içsel, dışsal ve genel iş doyum düzeylerinin bireysel değişkenlere göre tespit edilmesidir. İstanbul’da bulunan 9 devlet ve 33 vakıf üniversitesindeki İngilizce okutmanın ulaşılabilen (288 devlet, 356 vakıf) 644 elektronik posta adresine 20 maddeden oluşan Minnesota İş Doyum Ölçeği (MİDÖ) (Minnesota Job Satisfaction Questionnaire) elektronik posta yoluyla gönderilmiştir. Araştırma verileri, geri dönen 263 anketten elde edilmiştir. Araştırmaya yabancı uyruklu ve yarı zamanlı çalışan okutmanlar dahil edilmemiştir. İngilizce okutmanların ölçeğe verdikleri yanıtlar SPSS 17.0 (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) programı kullanılarak çözümlenmiştir. Araştırmada kullanılan istatistiksel teknikler; frekans, yüzde hesapları, aritmetik ortalama, standart sapma, bağımsız gruplar t-testi, tek yönlü varyans analizi (ANOVA) ve Post-hoc Scheffe testidir. Araştırmada okutmanların iş doyumlarının genelde yüksek olmadığı ortaya çıkmıştır. Ayrıca, okutmanların iş doyum düzeylerinin dışsal iş doyum düzeylerinden daha yüksek olması da araştırmanın bir diğer sonucudur. Okutmanların cinsiyet, medeni durum ve eğitim durumu değişkenleri ile iş doyumları arasında istatiksel açıdan anlamlı bir fark bulunmamıştır. Ancak, 41 ve üzeri yaş grubu okutmanların iş doyum düzeyi, daha genç okutmanlardan; 16 yıl ve üzeri mesleki kıdemi olan okutmanların iş doyum düzeyi 1-5 yıllık mesleki kıdemi olanlardan; halen çalışmakta oldukları üniversitedeki hizmet süreleri 11 yıl ve üzeri olan İngilizce okutmanların iş doyum düzeyleri daha az yıl çalışma yılları olan okutmanlardan daha yüksek bulunmuştur. Haftalık 21 ve üzeri saat ders yükü olan vakıf üniversitelerindeki okutmanların iş doyum düzeylerinin düşük olduğu saptanmıştır.
The main purpose of this study is to determine intrinsic, extrinsic and overall job satisfaction levels of the instructors of English at state and foundation universities in İstanbul. The Minnesota Job Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ) consisting of 20 items was emailed to 644 electronic mail addresses available of the instructors of English (288 state, 356 foundation) at 9 state and 33 foundation universities in Istanbul. Data for the survey were gathered from 263 questionnaires which were returned by the participants. In this survey, foreign and part-time instructors were not included. The participants’ responses were analysed by a statistical analysis program called SPSS 17.0 (Statistical Package for Social Sciences). The statistical techniques applied in this research are frequency, percentage analysis, mean, standard deviation, independent groups t-test, one way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Post-hoc Scheffe. It was found out that overall job satisfaction levels of university instructors of English were not high. Besides, it was also found out that the instructors’overall job satisfaction levels were higher than their extrinsic job satisfaction levels. There is no statistical meaningful difference between the instructors’ gender, marital status, educational background and job satisfaction. On the other hand, a significant difference was detected between the instructors’ age, work experience, length of service in their present universities, weekly work load and their intrinsic, extrinsic and overall job satisfaction levels. The instructors who are over 41 years old, have over 16 years’ work experience and have more than 11 years of length of service at their present universities have higher job satisfaction levels than younger or less experienced ones. Finally, it was found that the instructors who have more than 21 hours weekly work load at foundation universities have low job satisfaction levels.
