Abstract
Bu araştırmanın temel amacı internet kullanımının, yaşlıların demografik özellikleri, yaşam doyumu, algıladıkları sosyal destek ve umutsuzluk düzeyleri ile ilişkisinin incelenmesiydi. Bu doğrultuda ilgili literatür çerçevesinde yaşlıların internet kullanımını incelemek amacıyla; internet üzerinden düzenli olarak iletişim kurdukları kişi sayıları, haftalık internet kullanım süreleri, internet üzerinden paylaşımda bulundukları toplam kişi sayısı, kaç yıldır internet kullandıkları, interneti kullanım amaçları ve sosyal paylaşım sitesi tercihleri olmak üzere altı kriter belirlendi. Çalışma 188 katılımcı ile İstanbul ilinde yürütüldü. Bulgular, yaşlılarda internet kullanımına dair çeşitli özelliklerin yaşam doyumu ve algılanan sosyal destek düzeyi ilepozitif yönde, umutsuzluk düzeyleri ile ise negatif yönde ilişkili olduğunu ortaya koydu. Ayrıca çalışmada internet kullanımı ile yaş, eğitim düzeyi, aylık gelir ve yaşanan yer gibi demografik değişkenler arasında ilişki olduğu gözlendi.
The main purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between internet use and demographic characteristics of the elderly, life satisfaction, perceived social support and hopelessness levels in order to examine the internet use of the elderly in the light of the relevant literature; six criteria were determined, including the number of people they contacted regularly, weekly internet usage times, the total number of people with whom they share information over the internet, how many years they used the internet, internet usage purposes and social networking site preferences.The study is conducted in Istanbul with 188 participants. The findings revealed that various characteristics of internet use in the elderly are positively correlated with life satisfaction and perceived social support and negatively associated with hopelessness levels. In addition, it is observed that there is a relationship between internet usage and demographic variables such as age, education level, monthly income and place of residence.
