This study was carried out with 261 surgical nurses in Sancaktepe Şehit Prof. Dr. İlhan Varank Training and Research Hospital between November 2021 and February 2022, in order to determine the relatianship between the fear of COVID-19 and care behaviors of surgical nurses. Research data were collected face to face with “Nurse Descriptive Information Form”, Caring Behaviors Scale-24 (CBI-24)”, “The Fear of COVID-19 Scale (FCV-19S)”. The data were analyzed with the IBM SPSS Statistics 22 program. The suitability of the parameters to the normal distribution was evaluated with Kolmogorov- Smirnov test and it was determined that the parameters did not show normal distribution. While evaluating the study data, in addition to descriptive statistical methods (mean, standard deviation, median, frequency), Kruskal Wallis test was used to compare the parameters between groups of more than two in comparison of quantitative data, and the Dunn's test was used to determine the group that caused the difference. While Mann Whitney U test was used for the comparison of the parameters between two groups, Spearman's rho correlation analysis was used to analyze the relationships between parameters that did not conform to the normal distribution. In our study, the CBI-24 total score average was 4.95±0.84, and the nurses' chronic disease, COVID-19 status of themselves and their cohabitants, receiving training on surgical patient care during the COVID-19 process, spreading of COVID-19 It was seen that the measures taken for prevention and the state of thinking that the opportunities for giving care are sufficient affect the care behaviors. At the same time, FCV-19S total score average was 16.59±6.88, and it was determined that gender, thinking that the facilities were sufficient to care for surgical patients during the COVID-19 period and that they could provide effective care to surgical patients affected their fears of COVID-19. In the findings of our study, it was determined that the FCV-19S total scores of the surgical nurses were moderate, and the CBI-24 total and sub-dimension scores were above the average. There was a negative, moderate and statistically significant relationship between the FCV-19S total score of the surgical nurses and the BDI-24 total score and all sub-dimension scores (p<0.05). It was determined that fear of COVID-19 had a moderate negative impact on caregiving behaviors. Considering the research findings, it is recommended to provide regular psychological support to surgical nurses, to provide regular training against possible epidemics and disasters in institutions, and to improve the care opportunities of nurses working in surgical units.
