Özet
This study adresses the relation between metropolitan life and the concept of exile. It suggests a form of reading regarding individual's situation produced by the global living style within the metropolitan life. With an assumption that the concept of exile carries further meanings than those presented by the historical contexts, the study relies on the inter-textual readings interwoven with the concepts of globality, modern and post-modern identities and division of time and space. In this study, where the interaction of city and human-being is questioned, the issues such as how images are read, what kind of visual forms these readings correspond to and what kind of a profile a city person presents, are addressed. The main statements presented in the theoretical debate are discussed based on the semiological analysis of Newyork street images photographed by myself. It is argued that there is a mutual dependence between metropole and people established by the manipulation of time and space. Further, it is also realized that metropolitan person, who suffers from loneliness in the midst of the crowd, experiences the exile with its positive value only by developing a level of awareness about living in the metropole.
