dc.description.abstractDoğu-Batı ayrımı, hayali bir ayrım olmakla birlikte özellikle, sanat, bilim ve kültürel olarak gelişen Doğu’nun karşısında Orta Çağ karanlığında kalan Batı’nın, Rönesans ve Aydınlanma dönemiyle birlikte gelişen modernleşme süreci ve sömürgeci yaklaşımıyla daha da belirgin hale gelmiştir. Batı’nın hegemonik gücünün sürdürebilirliği için iktidarın baskı ve şiddet araçları haricinde, söylemsel pratikleri üretebildiği ideolojik araçlara da ihtiyacı vardır. Doğu-Batı diyalektiğinin akademik bir disiplin ve söylem biçimi olan oryantalizm, Batı iktidarının gücünü perçinleyen ve yeniden üretimine katkı sağlayan bir yaklaşımdır. “Mülteci Kamp Fotoğraflarının Oryantalist Söylem Bağlamında Görsel, Sosyal Ve Göstergebilimsel Açıdan İrdelenmesi” adlı tez çalışmasında, Batı’nın ilkel, barbar, vahşi olarak etiketlediği Doğu’yu ötekileştirmesi, oryantalist söylemin yeniden üretimini sağlayan ve ideolojik bir araç olan fotoğraf üzerine bir araştırma gerçekleşmektedir. 19. Yüzyılın hayali Doğu görselleri resim ve fotoğraf yoluyla kurgulanmıştır. Bu gerçeklikten yola çıkarak, ilk aşamada seçilmiş oryantalist resimler “görsel sosyal göstergebilim” ve “oryantalist söylem kodları” üzerinden incelenmiş ve daha sonra bu kodlar mülteci kamp fotoğraflarına da uygulanarak fotoğrafın oryantalist söylemi nasıl yeniden ürettiği saptanmaya çalışılmıştır. Batı’nın egemen güç olması yolundaki tarihsel süreci, oryantalizm/oksidentalizm diyalektiğinin açılımı, hegemonik ve ideolojik bir araç olan fotoğrafın oryantalist söylem pratiği olarak kullanımı tezin ana yapısını oluşturmaktadır.en_US
dc.description.abstractThe East-West distinction, although it is imaginary, has become more evident as a result of the modernization process and colonial approach in the West, where remained in the darkness of the middle ages, against the East, where developed in art, science and culture. For the sustainability of the hegemony of the West, the power needs ideological tools by which it can produce discursive practices, apart from the means of oppression and violence. Orientalism, an academic discipline and form of discourse of the East-West dialectic, is also determined as an approach that reinforces and contributes to its reproduction the power of the West. In the thesis titled 'A Visual, Social and Semiotic Analysis of Refugee Camp Photographs in the Context of Orientalist Discourse', the research is conducted on photography as an ideological tool which reproduced the orientalist discourse in the context of orientalism which means the West stigmatizes and marginalizes the East as primitive, barbaric and savage. It is possible to state that the visuality of "imaginary East" in the 19th century are constructed through painting and photography. Based on this reality, in the first phase of the research, the selected orientalist paintings are analyzed through "visual social semiotics" and "orientalist discourse codes "and then these codes are employed to the photographs of the refugee camps. Hence, it is tried to determine how photography reproduced the orientalist discourse. The historical process of the West becoming the dominant power, the dialectic of orientalism/occidentalism and the use of photography as a practice on orientalist discourse constitutes the main structure of the thesis.en_US
