Özet
The aim of the present study was to compare the family functioning and state-trait anxiety of mothers of diabetic children and mothers of healthy children. It was also aimed to examine whether the family functioning and state-trait anxiety the mothers of diabetic children changed as a function of their age, education level, income, birth sequence of the child with diabetes, the number of children in the family and the period of diabetes of the child. The sample consisted of 48 mothers of diabetic children and 50 mothers of healthy children. Mc Master Family Assesment Device, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and Demographic Information Form were used as data collection instruments in this study. The results indicated that mothers whose children suffer from diabetes significantly differed from mothers of healthy children in terms of family functioning and state-trait anxiety; compared to mothers of healty children, the mothers of the diabetic children were more unhealty in terms of family functioning and more anxious in terms of state-trait anxiety level. Also, the family functioning of mothers with diabetic children differed significantly according to age, education level, income, birth sequence of the child with Diabetes and number of children in the family. Results were discussed in the context of the releated literature.
