dc.description.abstractFilipinos make up 2.89% of the Hong Kong's 7 million population and some have been in the city for generations, long before the 1997 British Handover. While Hong Kong locals acknowledge their presence, this offers little illumination to their heterogeneous experiences. As such, Filipinos tend to be underrepresented and/or stereotyped in the media and public discussions. With the growing use of social media, Filipinos' struggles are being disseminated to wider audiences. Traditionally, the Education Bureau (EDB) sees fluency in Cantonese as a ticket to integration in the city. Speaking Cantonese would hypothetically strengthen Filipinos' sense of identification with Hong Kong culture and thus: make them more civically engaged and willing to participate in the city's affairs...en_US
dc.description.abstractFilipinliler, 1997 İngiliz el değiştirmesinden çok önce şehre yerleşmişlerdir ve 7 milyonluk Hong Kong nüfusunun yüzde %2.89'unu oluşturmaktadırlar, Hong Kong'lu yerliler varlıklarını kabul etse de bu onların heterojen deneyimlerine açıklama getirmede yetersiz kalmaktadır. Filipinliler medyada ve kamu tartışmalarında yetersiz temsil edilmeye ya da tek tipleştirilmeye eğilimlidir.
