This study was conducted to investigate the effects of bladder stimulation technique and bathing method on urine collection in term infants. The study sample consisted of 102 infants (bath group: 34 infants; bladder stimulation group: 34 infants; control group: 34 infants) hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit of Kartal Dr. Lütfi Kırdar City Hospital between December 2023 and July 2024. Research data were collected using the Newborn Information and Observation Form, sterile pediatric urine bags, stopwatch, bath and room thermometer. Bladder stimulation technique was applied to infants in the bladder stimulation group. Infants in the bath group were washed under running water. No intervention was applied to infants in the control group to facilitate urine sample collection; only a sterile urine bag was placed. Infants who urinated within 3 minutes (180 seconds) were considered successful. It was determined that the success rate in the bladder stimulation group was 70,6%, the success rate in the bath group was 50,0%, and the success rate in the control group was 14,7%. It was determined that the urine collection time of the bath group (85,82 seconds) was close to the bladder stimulation group (80,50 seconds) and shorter than the control group (153,40 seconds). According to these results, the bladder stimulation technique is recommended to be used to facilitate urine collection in term infants. In line with the results of this study which the effect of the bath method on urine collection is examined for the first time, the bath method is recommended to be used to facilitate urine collection in term infants and that more evidence-based studies should be conducted on this subject.
