Abstract
Diaper dermatitis is quite common in infants aged 6-12 months. This study was carried out to examine the effect of sterile saline and drinkable packaged water in the treatment of diaper dermatitis in infants aged 6-12 months. The sample of the study consisted of 90 infants who met the research criteria and whose mothers consented between August 2020 - October 2020 and May 2021 - October 2021 in Istanbul Maltepe ASM No. 21. Data were collected with the Infant Descriptive Form and the Assessing the Severity of Uncomplicated Diaper Dermatitis in Infants Scale. The collected datas have been tested on; Kolmogorov Smirnov, Shapiro-wilk, Independent Samples t-test, One-Way Anova, post-hoc, Paired-Samples t-test. The statistical significance value was accepted as p<0.05. In the analysis of the research findings, the second evaluation scores of the babies in the sterile saline, drinkable packaged water and control group a statistically significant decrease was observed (p<0.00). The second assessment score (0.67 ± 0.60) of the infants in the sterile saline group was found to be significantly lower than that of the drinkable packaged water group (1.00 ± 0.69) (p<0.05). As a result; Sterile saline solution can be used for cleaning the perineal area and its surroundings in babies. It is also recommended that further studies be conducted to monitor the effectiveness of sterile saline solution and drinkable packaged water over a long period of time.
