This study was conducted with a sample group consisting of parents in order to define the nutrition and physical activity environment of primary school children (1,2,3,4. grade) and their families. The study was conducted in June 2020 in a primary school with 1108 students in a district of Istanbul, after obtaining the ethics committee and institutional permission. 485 people filled out the questionnaire sent to all parents. Data were collected with questions including descriptive features and the Turkish-Adapted Family Nutrition and Physical Activity Screening Scale (ABFA-TR). The relations between the scores obtained from the ABFA-TR scale and the BMI status of the children and various descriptive features were examined with an appropriate analysis of variance model or correlation analysis depending on the structure and distribution of the data. The mean age of the children participating in the study was 7.12±1.23. 30.9% of the children are second year children and half (49.3%) are girls. While 34.6% of the mothers were high school graduates and 81.6% were not working; 35.3% of the fathers were high school graduates and 94.4% were working. It was found that 50.2% of the mothers participating in the study were in the overweight and obese class, while this rate was 70.7% for the fathers. It was found that 37.1% of the students were overweight and obese. According to the multiple fit analysis between the father s BMI value and the percentiles of the children, it was seen that fathers with normal BMI had normal weight children, and overweight and obese fathers had overweight and obese children (?2=18.014, p=0.006). ABFA scale total score average was found to be 59.12±6.34. Families have the lowest mean score for Child Activity (4.46±1.38), the highest mean score for Sleep routine (6.97±1.23), Food choice (6.80±1.05) and Family meals (6.80±1.05).71±1.46) sub-dimensions. Significant differences were found between mother's education, employment, father's education and income, and ABFA-TR score averages (p<0.05). According to the results of the study, it is recommended to conduct intervention studies aimed at changing obesogenic health behaviors for primary school children. © 2023en_US
